Things are starting to gain shape here. I feel like I want to spend a long duration of time on this one; the kinks are just starting to be sorted out. Jem Southam came to MassArt for last Fall's lecture series and I was just not really into him at the time. Now that I have started these though, I have gained a whole new respect for what he makes. I'm starting to realize that what sparks his work also influences mine...

Without question this photograph defines my summer; one big blur of just working. I guess it's not a bad thing to be making money. I actually enjoy seeing it in my bank account, but there is something about not producing artwork that gets to me after a while. I'v been shooting here and there, but I have also been just frickin tired. My head is just in other places. Hopefully it all comes back to me strong in a little more than a month from today. Yet for right now, it's 40 hours a week at Lake Iroquois with the addition of odds and ends for other people. My Mom recommended enjoying the moment on hand (something a mom would say) and so that's exactly what I am going to do...
After cleaning out my grandparent’s house a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get an old sewing machine and my Papere's Pentax K1000. I’m glad I was able to get my hands on these before they were thrown away. I love how my Papere engraved his name, address, and phone number right onto the bottom of the camera...
I have been taking advantage of all the home has to offer, which includes using my father's Netflix account. I just finished watching Unser täglich Brot (Our Daily Bread) by Nikolaus Geyrhalter. It was a beautiful rendition of what the food industry “looks” like. I couldn't stop thinking of how Geyhalter must have been influenced by Edward Burtynsky's Manufactured Landscapes. The cinematic qualities were very similar. In addition, i also couldn't stop thinking about my own work and how much of an influence this film has on me. I'm certainly inspired to work in this kind of direction. Possibly my Junior Project?
