RZ Portrait



Daybook Entry 8.2.11

Last wednesday, Austin and I fished the Winooski river for the first time this summer. we left early, eager to make it to our spot before the fish began to rise. on the dirt road we drove along the river, i stopped a couple of times to make pictures with my 4x5 and RZ. The light was magnificent and images were born again through the ground glass that i earlier utilized. i’m content knowing that these photographs are made out of appetite rather than a scramble of demand.


Austin and I waited through thick grass, under train trestles, and through the bottom of cold mountain streams with my fly rode in one hand and tripod within my other. my stomach carried butterflies along for the ride. it felt like a much anticipated reunion with a women i once fell for long ago. I didn’t have to tell my brother, because he knew already. Only Wyeth could paint this image. for now, I can only live it and attempt to come close.


For the rest of the evening, the sound of the river trickled through my head. It was pitch black when we returned home. we left all the fish we caught where we found them, and it was enough excitement to finally grant me my first night’s sleep within’ a months pass...
